  • The Best Time of Year for Raccoon Removal in Brampton

    Raccoons are a year-round nuisance in Brampton's residential and commercial areas. Often, they are more than just a nuisance and responsible for considerable damage to homes, yards, and commercial spaces. Let's explore when is the best time for raccoon removal in Brampton.

    While there is an ideal time for raccoon removal, the method and legality may matter just as much. Other GTA wildlife companies are limited to offering temporary solutions, such as live trapping and releasing the animal within a one kilometre radius of the capture site. Hawkeye Bird & Animal Control is the only company offering permanent raccoon removal in Brampton. Learn more about when to act and why Hawkeye's permanent removal is the only true long term solution

    Raccoon Activity in Brampton Throughout the Year

    Spring

    Early spring is the time when raccoon removal is most advantageous. Raccoons breed in very early spring and birth litters of 4 kits (average) later in the spring and early summer. Ideally, we remove the animals before they reproduce and interrupt the breeding cycle. Because raccoons are so adept at living alongside humans in urban areas and deal with fewer natural predators in urban settings, most raccoon babies survive their first year of life. In comparison, the mortality rate in the wild routinely reaches up to 50%. Spring is also the time when a pregnant female will move mountains to get into a warm and cozy attic or similar space to prepare her birthing den.

    Summer

    Summer sees momma raccoon raising her offspring and slowly introducing them to the outside world. Once kits are born, removal becomes much more problematic. Both, the location may be an issue and/or difficult to access and mother and little ones will have to be moved together to ensure survival of the kits.

    Fall

    During the fall, a mother and her offspring will likely be looking for a safe and warm refuge with winter looming on the horizon. Young raccoons often stay with their mother throughout the first winter. More bodies means more heat and higher chances of survival for all. During this time, spring and fall are both primary seasons for raccoons breaking into Brampton attics or outbuildings.

    Winter

    If we haven't been able to stop a raccoon family from moving in before now, they'll be well settled in and prepared to stay for the long haul. Again, your attic is probably the place most favoured.

    Best Times for Permanent Raccoon Removal in Brampton

    The absolute best time for permanent raccoon removal in Brampton is at the very end of winter or very early spring – once raccoons are frolicking out ‘n about, looking for a mating partner, and BEFORE kits are born. The fewer animals that need to be removed, the better. And the absolute last thing we’ll want to happen is to remove mum and leave one or more of her babies behind.

    Newborn raccoons are completely dependent on their mother. They are born blind and hairless; they have zero chance of survival if separated from their mum.

    Why the "Best Time" for Hawkeye's Raccoon Removal Is Always Now

    Addressing Immediate Problems:

    best time for raccoon removalIf you should discover or even just suspect a raccoon in your home or business, it’s time to act.

    • Minimize structural damage by intervening immediately;

    • Minimize health risks to you, your family, pets, employees, etc.

    Preventing Future Issues:

    The standard practice of catch and release almost ALWAYS leads to recurring raccoon infestation and costs.

    • By permanently removing all raccoons on site, you can rest assured that these same animals will not return.

    • By cutting off the breeding cycle, overall raccoon populations can be better managed and brought back to reasonable levels.

    Humane and Effective Solution:

    All living creatures ought to be treated with respect and compassion. Hawkeye’s permanent raccoon removal allows for a pain- and stress-free solution for the animal(s).

    • Raccoons are caught in live traps providing food, water, and shelter;

    • Captured animals are then humanely euthanized without causing undue distress or discomfort;

    • In contrast, animals relocated often find themselves disoriented and confused, desperately seeking to return to familiar territory – and ultimately start the cycle all over again.

  • What You Need to Know About Raccoon Breeding Season in Toronto

    You might wonder why raccoon breeding season is a topic in the midst of December? Well, now would be a really good time to double check around your home and ensure that no raccoons (or squirrels) can get in. Because they ARE thinking about breeding season and they WILL find a cozy spot to den and raise their offspring. And, that cozy spot will hopefully not be your attic!

    Mating Behavior During Raccoon Breeding Season

    Raccoon Mating Seasons in Toronto

    Raccoonmating or breeding typically occurs in the later part of winter - January and after - with females giving birth in the Spring time to the only litter per year. However, if the first litter doesn't survive or is not viable, the female may mate again and have a successful litter later in the summer. 'When is raccoon breeding season' often depends on the amount of daylight and temperatures. But let's look at the raccoon breeding cycle a bit more closely:

    Raccoon Mating Habits & Courtship Rituals

    Raccoon mating habits are not unlike those of many other mammals - including humans :) The males posture and compete for the right to mate - this may go as far as a physical fight. And, the females will observe the spectacle and choose their mate, usually the strongest male. Dominant, healthy males may breed several females. The actual mating involves an hour or so of foreplay and finally copulation and may be repeated for several days. You know.. just to be sure :)

    Raccoon Gestation and Birth

    Once the female has mated and is indeed pregnant, she will become solitaryand set out in search of a den to raise her offspring. A lone raccoon foraging and lingering around your home in late January or early February may very well be a pregnant female looking for a den.

    Gestation Period Details

    Expectant mums have a 63 day (or, roughtly two months) gestation period before welcoming their litter into the world.

    Typical Litter Size

    2 raccoon kitsFemale raccoons will give birth to an average litter of 4 kits - although, litters can range from 1 to 7 little ones. Babies are born blind and deaf, weighing only about 4 to 5 ounces. They are completely dependent on their mother's care for their first 3 weeks of life. As many as 50% of raccoon babies may not survive their first year of life. If separated from their mother early one, their chances are nil.

    Signs of Raccoon Breeding Activity in Toronto

    Increased Nighttime Activity

    During the time of courtship and mating, you are more likely to see groups of raccoons. While raccoons are primarily nocturnal animals, they will be more visible and more social and interactive with each other duing this time.

    Raccoon Vocalizations During Mating Season

    Raccoons are very vocal animals at all times, chitter chattering and conversing with each other - but even more so during mating season. You might hear a male raccoon letting out loud, screeching calls to get the attention of a fancied female raccoon, which may be answered by a softer, chirping sound coming from said female. These calls play a crucial role in their mating rituals and territorial behaviors.

    Scent Marking during Raccoon Breeding Season

    Raccoons don't pee on trees, or distribute their excrement willy-nilly. In fact, raccoons are very clean animals, using designated latrine areas - and this doesn't change just because it's mating season. Instead, they will use their entire body to rub their scent on trees or structures and thus let others know who the master of this particular domain is.

Peregrine Falcons at FIFA Toronto 2026

Before the fans, the players, and the excitement of the FIFA World Cup arrive at Toronto Stadium, six very special residents beat everyone to it.

High above the action, tucked away in the stadium rafters and overlooking BMO Field, a pair of Peregrine Falcons chose one of Canada's most iconic venues to raise their family. By the time the nest was discovered, four healthy chicks had already hatched and were busy growing up with a front-row seat to history.

Because Peregrine Falcons are a protected species, ensuring the safety of the birds, staff, and future spectators quickly became a shared priority.

Upon assuming operations of Toronto Stadium, FIFA reached out to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for guidance on the best course of action. Following consultations with the Ministry, Hawkeye Bird and Animal Control was brought in as the recommended wildlife expert to evaluate the possibility of relocating the nest.
